Ah, the draw of the open air summer concerts. It had been some time since I had attended Lollapalooza or other outdoor concert that featured sweaty bodies, spilled beer, spiked hair, pierced bodies, and a mix of musical artists. I remember well the days of getting sweaty, dusty, and tired just to have the chance to see my favorite bands play live, but I haven’t been jumping at the chance to do it again anytime soon. That is, until the chance to see Sum 41 at the 2016 Van’s Warped Tour came along.
The tour was everything I remembered it to be – sun, sweat, alcohol and the overabundance of spiked purple hair and body piercings galore. That hadn’t changed from how I remember it being during my twenties. What had changed was my tolerance to be in that environment for hours on end. Although we did see several other great bands that day, truth be told, my girlfriend and I never made it long enough to see Sum 41 on stage. We opted for listening to their music as we drove away in an air conditioned Jeep.
